Institutional buyers commonly maintain exclusion lists for compliance reasons. A hedge fund holding a long position in Company X excludes Company X experts from their research briefs to prevent inadvertent insider trading exposure.

Reputable networks maintain 2,000+ active exclusion entries across institutional clients, applied automatically at the brief-vs-expert matching stage. If an expert is on a client's exclusion list, the expert is invisible to that client's briefs.

Exclusion lists are confidential — between the buyer and the network. Other clients of the network do not see other clients' exclusion lists. Cross-client wall enforcement protects the integrity of both clients' compliance positions.

Common exclusion criteria: current portfolio holdings (long or short), prospective investment targets under active diligence, recent transactions, employers of named individuals (e.g. spouse or family member at the target), and any company under active regulatory restriction by the buyer's compliance function.

03/Frequently Asked3 questions
Q.01

How do I add to my exclusion list?

Submit additions via your compliance function to your network's account team. Updates take effect within 24 hours typically.

Q.02

Are exclusion lists permanent?

Buyer-controlled. Most entries are reviewed quarterly or after material events (deal close, position exit).

Q.03

Can networks share my exclusion list with other clients?

Reputable networks treat exclusion lists as confidential between the buyer and the network. Cross-client wall enforcement is a baseline expectation.
