Expert Survey

An expert survey is a structured quantitative research panel of vetted industry experts or operating professionals — distinct from consumer-survey panels by virtue of respondent vetting and depth.

Expert surveys combine the scale and statistical reliability of quantitative survey research with the respondent quality of qualitative expert work. Typical panel sizes: 50-300 respondents per category, all vetted for relevant operating experience.

Use cases include category-awareness testing, buyer-intent measurement, willingness-to-pay quantification, and competitive-positioning benchmarking. Common in B2B contexts where consumer-survey panels don't have enough sector-relevant respondents.

Compliance is more demanding than consumer surveys because respondents are industry insiders who could hold MNPI. Reputable providers apply screening, attestations and exclusion-list checks at the respondent level — analogous to per-call attestation on the 1:1 side.

Pricing varies dramatically by panel scarcity. A 100-respondent survey of mid-market IT buyers might cost €15-25k. A 50-respondent survey of senior C-level executives in a scarce category could cost €40-80k. NewtonX and adjacent vendors specialise here; expert networks like GLG and Tegus operate survey adjuncts.

03/Frequently Asked3 questions
Q.01

How is an expert survey different from a consumer survey?

Respondents in expert surveys are vetted operating professionals — much smaller available panels but materially deeper category knowledge. Consumer surveys recruit broadly for scale.

Q.02

Can expert surveys substitute for 1:1 expert calls?

No. Surveys answer 'what proportion of operators say X?'. Calls answer 'why and how?'. Use surveys when scale matters, calls when depth matters.

Q.03

What's a typical survey timeline?

3-5 weeks from panel design to deliverable. Some specialist providers can field 100+ respondents in under 2 weeks at premium pricing.
